Prompted by recommendations that Thailand be placed on a “Watch List” for 2013 by the US Government in relation to the production and sale of counterfeit items, the Thai Government has declared that 2013 is the “Year of IP Protection” and the Police are now working tirelessly to clear Pattaya of those involved in Intellectual Property Violations.

On Wednesday Night a team of officers from Pattaya Police and the Police Region 2 Intellectual Property Protection Unit conducted raids on two popular Shopping Malls, which the Police have decided not to name.

A total of 22 vendors were arrested and an estimated 5 Million Baht’s worth of fake branded goods ranging from clothing items to Ipads were seized.

The operation was led by Police Major General Tara, Deputy Commissioner of Region 2 Police, who is under pressure to clear Pattaya of these items and arrest those responsible for producing and selling the items, following recommendations made by an influential organization in United States, the International Intellectual Property Alliance, to the US Government to increase Thailand’s ranking on its list of countries that violate intellectual property rights.

    Next MBK in Bangkok?

  • Shopaholic for fake Cr@p

Damn I was going to the mall today to buy to boardies and sunnies! Guess I will have to just buy them half price now and follow the leed where this stuff ends up.

  • False Flag

Dam wont be happy if I cant get any cheap designer labelled clothes on my next trip to Pattaya in May, always stock up on good T-Shirts etc on my trips there. I normally use Mike’s Shopping mall, guess this place was one of the shops hit? .

  • bangkokstick

USA pays for this, it is normal that police pretends..

  • Paul England

“Police are now working tirelessly”. Don’t make me laugh. This media showcase is just the tip of the iceberg. Pattaya’s shops/malls/markets would be empty is you removed all the fake goods.

  • adrian

Easy work, there are fakes everywhere here. Providing they are sold as fakes or copies I don’t see any problem. The person who wants REAL designer goods won’t buy them here,if they have any sense. I remember in the UK trading standards people checked fakes and found that some of the fakes were better than the real thing. I think it was jeans. I wish the Police would just concentrate on serious crimes, shootings, drugs and robberies. Many tourists come here to buy fakes, they like them, why waste so much money on a designer name.

  • Don

Thats not nice to talk about my style like that. I even have a business in Patts, work in the middle east (expat high salary) but still like to blend in with the rest of the surroundings of Pattaya. What do you think all the bar girls are wearing? Sure aint Marks n Spencer or David Jones etc! Ya Nonce…

PS: What I dont get is all the posters on this forum who actually spell it out that they Hate Pattaya, or its a hole etc etc etc, but yet are on this forum everyday blurting cac out of their pie hole through their keyboards. Either its a IP address in and old peoples retard home somewhere in the world or it is just pure down right jealousy because they are married to some 110kg falang and can only precariously live through other peoples lives in Pattaya living that sworded life they will never have. Sad Sorry Sons of ………

  • rob

So, if the Americans sat “do this” they do? Time for every country in the world to ignore the USA

  • Nathan

Hey Don you have, been working in the Middle East to long and fried your brain like I said whatever rocks your boat, you seem rather upset suggest you go and have a night out on Walking St and blend in with your bogan style cheap threads.

  • tr4pattaya

  • xbox

My ex-wife has fake boobs….I paid for them and now her new boyfriend plays with them….can the police please go and seize them back for me…..cost a fortune!

  • Bob

Yup, but too many losers think it is their GF.

  • Robert

The Thais should tell the American Government to go take a flying boom boom, but not word it that politely. The companies that market these designer brands have fired all their American workers and outsourced their manufacturing to China anyway, so this issue is not a concern to American workers, but only to a few wealthy stock holders. The wealthy and the corporations are all the US Government cares about.

  • Justin

This is a very one sided opinion certainly not the way forward to deal with such an important issue,
The Thai Government has alot of respect for our American Government and are to diplomatic to react in this childish manner you are implying.

  • gwats1957

Looks the ‘tea money’ express pulled in a bit too late to avoid that raid…………

  • gwats1957

You didn’t read the ‘no refund’ policy at the door, Sir?

  • gwats1957

  • Donnie

  • Nathan

Thanks for the offer ..Donnie but no thanks get a bar girl to eat your Hugo Boss shorts take a trip down soi 6 and you,ll find one this afternoon!

  • IanB

Not to sound disrespectful, but why would “Thailand” care? Unless there’s aid money involved? Let me use my crystal ball and guess … Mike’s Shopping Mall was targeted for the 100th time

  • IanB

Bawahahaha, good one. Or Platinum. Millions upon millions of counterfeit ITEMS within a 2 kilometer radius of either. Challenge you to find something that’s not fake in MBK . It’s a tough task.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alan.lockhart Alan Lockhart

  • Cliff

Yip and buy them drinks all night long haha !

  • Robert

First of all genius, it would be too diplomatic, not to, and after Iraq and Guantanamo why would anyone have any respect for the US Government?

  • Justine

The fact is people all over the world look up to the Americans and what our great country stands for .
Thailand is a fine example of this .

  • Roger
