A Swedish National and his Thai Girlfriend were caught-up in a necklace snatch incident in South Pattaya on Thursday afternoon. The victim, Mr. Mats Patrik Lybom aged 45 was traveling on his motorbike with his girlfriend Khun Sorn aged 33 from Surin Province on Pattaya Second Road close to Soi 17 when two Thai males approached from behind on a further bike and attempted to snatch a gold necklace from around the neck of Mr. Lybom who was traveling as passenger. This caused both bikes to fall on to the road slightly injuring both victims. Luckily passers-by saw the incident take place and were able to detain the two suspects who were later found to be aged only 15 and 16. Both boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were taken to Pattaya Police Station along with the victims. Checks revealed that the 15 year old suspect was currently on Police Bail in relation to a previous necklace snatch. He wanted to steal the necklace and use the money gained through pawning the expensive item, thought to be worth around 65,000 Baht, to fund nights out with friends. The 16 year old boy, who currently attends a school in Sattahip intended to use his share to fund his education. Both boys are now behind bars pending Court proceedings.
