One dead and two seriously injured following Pattaya road crash

10th March 2010

On Tuesday Afternoon, Police and Rescue Services were called to the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien to deal with a fatal road accident involving an 18 Wheel Truck and a pick-up. The truck was carrying a load of cement pylons which were placed in a way in which the ends of the pylon were hanging over the end of the truck and there was nothing attached to the end of them to indicate this was the case. The driver of the truck, Khun Prichar aged 40, remained at the scene and explained that he had slowed down to make a u-turn back to Pattaya with the intention of delivering his load to the Laem Chabang Port. He felt a sharp jolt and realized that a Pick-up had driven into the rear of the vehicle but had collided with the end of the pylons rather than the vehicle. The pick-up driver, Khun Amnat aged 38, a local government worker from Chonburi was pronounced dead-at-the-scene. His passengers, including his daughter and niece were rushed to Hospital in a serious condition. Police arrested the truck driver and are expected to charge him over the pylons and the fact he did not indicate they were hanging over the end of the truck.
