On Tuesday Night, and following on from their operation the night before, Police Major Arun, the Inspector-in-charge of the Pattaya Tourist Police Station led a team of Tourist Police Officers on a further clean-up operation on Pattaya Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road. This time, the officers were on the hunt for illegal street beggars, many of which are known to be illegal immigrants. The operation led to the arrest of 17 people, which included 8 children. The majority of the arrestees were Cambodian Nationals who are thought to have illegally crossed the border at Aranya-pratet in Satgeow Province, which is known as an easy border to cross for illegal aliens. The Cambodians are expected to be deported but will likely return to Thailand the next day, the rest paid a small fine and were later released.

I’ve noticed an increased number of beggars in and around the seconds road area the last two visits. This can’t be helping the tourist trade.
This is welcomed in my opinion and after-all it;s only the tourist police that are involved. This is a perfect example of good work, hopefully this is good riddance to some shoulder tappers and we can enjoy our drinks in peace.
Crack down on the criminals?!?!?! Are you serious? Those guys might be armed and could harm one our wonderful BIB.
Destitute beggars are much easier — no weapons, probably can’t run very fast due to lack of good nutrition, etc.
The day when Thai police start doing something about real crime is just about the same time you’ll see pigs flying. Besides, there’s too good a chance that some of the proceeds from criminal activity goes into the bosses pocket, so why would any cop want to p*ss off the boss.
Never mind the destitute beggars, crack down on the criminals for a change.
