We have reported over the last few days of plans by the new Superintendant of Pattaya Police Station, to clean-up the city and correct problems inherited by him from previous Superintendants. On Tuesday Morning, we conducted an interview with Police Colonel Nantawoot, who at the age of only 38, is one of the youngest Superintendants Pattaya Police Station has ever had. He has been transferred here to clean-up the City which is a haven for all forms of serious crimes. His main focus will be on crimes relating to illegal drugs. He acknowledges the fact that drug usage and distribution is the biggest problem Pattaya faces. He believes that by suppressing drug crimes, others crimes will also be reduced as a result. He will be reviewing the work of his investigations department to ensure that investigations into drug crimes are completed to the point that everyone involved in the chain of drug distribution is located and arrested. Many other points were discussed in our meeting with the new Colonel including plans to increase the numbers of Traffic Police Officers in Pattaya. They will be asked to better control Baht Buses and where they park and how they drive and response times for officers to attend road accidents will also be improved. Prostitution is also high on his agenda and he will be particular interested in arresting agents who provide men and women to customers for the purposes of prostitution.

I applaud his going after the drug dealers. I just hope he does not become discouraged by the depth and length of the corruption all around him.
Heard it all before, give him six months into the job and watch his bank account fill up with pay offs etc.
“To ensure that investigations into drug crimes are completed to the point that everyone involved in the chain of drug distribution is located and arrested.”
Well that puts about 50% of the cops in deep trouble then
Much of Pattaya’s fascination comes from it’s vibrant and colorful nightlife.
It is certainly not the bumpy and dusty roads full of partially life-threatening potholes, the polluted water and air or the beaches full of waste and burglars (though the hordes of Russian and Indian tourists who have believed the TOT advertisements might suggest otherwise).
I think the new Police Chief is right on the spot with his plans to get rid of the drug issues/criminality here as well as of the professional thieves (be it mototaxi/Songtheaw/taxi/.. riders, ‘sales’ agents of all kinds etc.), IOW to improve safety and living conditions for residents, but please don’t touch the wonderful and vivid nightlife which – like it or not – is a world-reknown landmark of this city. Pattaya without the nightlife would just be boring, and without it, this city would not be worth a visit.
Just my 2 cents of course.
its a bit much trying to crack down on drugs, it’s one of the hardest things to stop. concentrating on it more than anything might just let the other crimes rise as these people need to find more money to pay for more expensive drugs (less drugs = higer price).
Nevergoing a bar fine is totally legal, you are only paying to take the lady(or man)from their place of employment and paying compensation for their time.
It is up to you and her(or him) what you do after that. You may just want to go play monopoly.
No prostitution in Pattaya would be like having no gambling in las Vegas.
The fact that drugs are illegal is creating opportunities for crime. No nation has won any war on drugs, and Thailand is no exception. Legalize drugs, tax them and help addicts kick the habit!
Jesus, is he going a bit far here ? arresting everyone who supplies sex ? is this not what Pattaya is known for. Does this mean no bar fines in future ? would this be enough proof that they sold sex. Chill out chief, get the drugs and guns first lad.
