Foreign Motorbike Driver dies following accident at unfinished stretch of road in Jomtien

9th February 2010

It was only a matter of time until the long-running road-works on the Thappraya Road leading to Jomtien Beach would claim a life. In the early hours of Tuesday Morning, Police and Rescue Services were called to the road following a single vehicle road accident. Lying on the partially completed road was Mr. Dergey Plekhanov, thought to be from Russia. He had been thrown from his motorbike after he had hit a road-sign which ironically urged drivers to exercise caution due to the road modification work. The victim, who was not wearing a safety helmet is believed to have driven down a part of the road that was closed to traffic. He sustained a major head trauma at the scene and despite efforts by medical staff to revive the man, he was pronounced dead-on-arrival at hospital.

hey u amigos, this is called an R.T.A. which means road traffic accident,it could happen to u,the bi mistake here is most of the underdevelop countries donot have the safe road management system, either there government ignore this,or they canot afford to imply the R.T.A. Safety Management,to me i can say,the thai police is to be blamed for not having a proper singnage,or no warning tapes ,neither a corden or barriers to stop, its called a HARD – CONTROL,thai people & thai police should assist and protect all the tourist who go to pattaya,
    thank u sir

Can’t realy blame the roadworks for that one, the blame lies with the stupid tourist not wearing a helmet and driving like an idiot, like most tourists do around Pattaya.

  15. Red Barron says:

The helmet would have just broken his neck. Even if he lived he would be in a wheelchair. Helmets are not as safe as you might think. If you think they are safe then wear one all the time!
