Illegally detained Burmese Nationals rescued by Region 2 Police at local Fishing Port.

6th February 2010

On Friday Evening at around 6.30pm we joined a team of Police Region 2 Child and Women Protection Unit Officers who received orders from the Region 2 Police Commander to investigate allegations that a Burmese Couple were holding a group of Burmese people against their will at a Fishing Port in Sattahip. A team of officers conducted a raid of the Sapan Sai Fishing Port located in Samaer San in Sattahip and a storage facility owned by Mrs. Win aged 30, a fellow Burmese National who, with her Husband, who was able to run away from Police, had kept 7 Burmese under lock and key and provided them with only a small amount of food. They were originally brought to Thailand on a promise to work at a Cotton Factory in Bangkok. They were in fact taken to the port where they worked as fishermen with no pay and were told they would be killed if they tried to escape. The Police Officers took the Burmese workers, who entered Thailand illegally, to a local Police Station where Mrs. Win was charged with a variety of Human Trafficking and abduction charges. The hunt for her Husband is currently ongoing.
